Life Skill Education Theater Education – Continues

The 3rd round of Life Skill Educational Theater Program for selected secondary & preparatory schools in Addis Abeba has been conducted on Monday, Jan 13, 2020, at Bole Secondary & preparatory school with guests from the school administration, teachers and attending students of the school.

The program as its predecessors was a theatrical program with an interactive discussion with the students about how to lead a healthy lifestyle and whether starting relationships at this stage of life is right. It was well-received by the students and that other attendee students asked to be part of the program for the future time.

MCH Mid-Term Review – ToR

IA has been working on a project called Making Change Happen for the past year and a half. As it reached its mid-term, IA has sent out a call for EOI on December 15, 2019, for companies and institutes to review the projects half-life.

Life Skill Educational Theater Program

Initiative Africa held its first Life Skill Educational Theater program on January 2, 2020 at Birhan Guzo Secondary School in the mid day 12:00 p.m.(6:00 local time) and at Dr. Hadis Alemayehu Secondary School in the afternoon 2:45 p.m. (8:45 local time).

The Program aim was to enlighten the secondary and preparatory school students about various issues concerning their health, new things they get introduced to or face as teenager, how their decisions affect their well-being, future & ways to handle it.

The theater had a 20 minute duration and there were segments in it that had discussion points within the sessions of the theater that let the participants to share their ideas with one another.

Upcoming Event – Life Skill Educational Theater

Life Skill Educational Theater program aiming to enhance Secondary School students awareness on various youth-related health concerns including SRH is being conducted in selected secondary schools in Addis Abeba.

The first segment of the training has been finished and performance of the theater by the students will begin from the coming Tuesday afternoon at Menelik II school. Everyone who is interested can attend the event and share their thoughts on the matter.

Health Club Strengthening Training for Selected Secondary Schools residing in Addis Abeba

Initiative Africa successfully conducted a 1 day school health club establishment and strengthening training on December 13, 2019 for selected school health clubs in Addis Abeba. On the day, health club coordinating teachers, club leader students and representative members attended the program which held on Kokebe Tsibha secondary school hall.

The training incorporates various discussion points that aimed to enhance the clubs planning and implementation status, effectiveness and on how to organize their clubs formally. The participants discussed on issues on their school health club and acknowledged the platform created for them to share experiences among each other.

Call for Expression of Interest (EOI)

Established in 2002, Initiative Africa (IA) is a non-partisan civil society organization that works to contribute to a sustainable, just, and peaceful Ethiopia and Africa with opportunity for all. Since its re-registration, IA has teamed up with NGOs, associations, policymakers, and journalists to reducing poverty and inequality
through education and advocacy.

With the support of the Embassy of Sweden in Addis Ababa, IA has been implementing a three-year project titled “GENDER EQUALITY: Making Change Happen” since July 2018. The Making Change Happen project addresses gender empowerment programs that address social norms and behaviors change, seek out and build partnerships among organizations that work on gender issues, and develop programs that involve men and boys in the promotion of gender equality. The project is being implemented in six regional states of Ethiopia (Addis Ababa, Amhara, Dire Dawa, Oromia, SNNPR and Tigray) focusing on gender issues in (a) the workplace, (b) schools and communities, and (c) the media. To this end, IA will be running a tender process with the intention of awarding a contract for the provision mid-term evaluation of this project.

The EOI must include a contact name, company name. company address, phone, email address and letter to briefly explain your proposal. Copy of relevant legal documents should also be enclosed.

Tender documents: Only shortlisted firms will be provided with the TOR. Submissions/ EOI that do not fully include the required documents, as well as late submissions, will be disqualified for the shortlist.

Initiative Africa will conduct a 1 day training on Strengthening of a School Health clubs for selected secondary schools in Addis Abeba in the coming Friday  Dec 13, 2019 at Kokebe Tsibha Secondary school Hall. We will update about the program on and after the event.
