Initiative Africa in collaboration with Light Ethiopia held a panel discussion on gender equality in the human right perspective. Dr.Abate, President of Wollo University was a guest of honor in addition Assistant professor Sebsib Hadis, had a presentation on what leaders and leadership is.

Initiative Africa held its third School Violence Assessment Facilitators Training and Workshop that took place in Kombolcha City with Light Ethiopia starting from April 19 – 20, 2019. Training Teachers and school administration on Identification, Assessment and reporting of School Violence and Bulling index.
Initiative Africa held its first and second School Violence Assessment Facilitators Training and Workshop that took place in Hawassa and Addis Ababa with COC-Ethiopia and Shalom respectively Starting from April 08 – 13. Training over 50 Teachers and school administration on Identification, Assessment and reporting of School Violence and Bulling index.
Initiative Africa meet with the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Addis Ababa at the Embassy compound to discussed the continuous partnership on the projects being done. IA has signed a project agreement with the Embassy on a project titled “Improving school based violence prevention programs through meaningful planning”. The project will focus on reducing school violence and will be implemented in selected 12 secondary schools in Addis Ababa. The agreement is signed Yesterday by H.E. Pavel Mikeš, Czech Ambassador to FDRE and Mr. Kebour Ghenna, Executive Director of Initiative Africa.
Initiative Africa is having an award ceremony on the 13th of February, 2019 for the Essay Contest on Anti Bulling Campaign.

Initiative Africa and British Council’s project called “ACTIVE CITIZENS: Get the Youth Skilled and Working Locally”, Light Ethiopia held ‘Social Enterprise Leadership Training’, from January 14-17, 2019. To create future social enterprise schools, the social enterprise program will work directly with this young people [school children] by building their capacity through social enterprise leadership skills, to increase their social engagement and to initiate school based community action project.
Initiative Africa’s Making Change Happen project is working towards a more holistic approach to prevent prevent and combat violence against women, ensure freedom of choice, and foster gender gender equality within all sectors of society. One of the main activities under this project is the expansion of SIDA’s existing gender network into the regions outside of Addis Ababa to increase its outreach capabilities. In collaboration with its regional partner, Center of Concerns in Hawassa, Initiative Africa established a gender network consisting of influential men and women who play a vital role in their community. The network was established, with COC’s support, on December 12, 2018 in Hawassa with 12 select individuals in attendance.
Objective of the network
Assist project implementation by bringing together network leaders across multiple industries and sectors of society
Create a networking platform for women, community leaders and entrepreneurs to share best practice around running their networks, challenges and opportunities as well as leverage peer-to-peer support to enable network success and growth.
The overall goal will be to strengthen the outreach capabilities of the network and create a platform for experience sharing and peer-to-peer connections to aid the women in the community in advancing their professional and personal goals and remove barriers to women’s participation in community development.
