Initiative Africa Working With Sida To Support Gender Equality In 4 Regional States, Addis Ababa And Dire Dawa

Initiative Africa is working with Embassy of Sweden/Sida to support the project entitled MAKING CHANGE HAPPEN to promote gender equality.

This project has four components:

  1. Reduction of Gender-Based Violence in schools and the workplace
  2. Sexual Reproductive Health Education in secondary schools
  3. Media and Communication to Promote Gender Equality
  4. Gender Mainstreaming in the workplace, (private and NGOs).

The project which is expected to have a three-year duration covers 92 Woredas in six regions of Ethiopia namely; Addis Ababa, Amhara, Dire Dawa, Oromia, SNNPR, and Tigray.  MAKING CHANGE HAPPEN targets 132,000 beneficiaries of which 70% are women

The support from the Swedish Embassy and other donors will demonstrate their commitment to combating violence against women and girls and ensuring gender equality in Ethiopia. In particular, the project will mean more support to women to improve their socio-economic conditions, more support to transform workplaces so that organizations can turn the talent, creativity, and intelligence that come with gender equality into a business success. This also means that there will be more support for children and young girls and their community in the fight against violence.
