HOLLA Arts for Development Workshop organized at Harmony hotel

The workshop organized by the British Council and the HOLLA youth leaders took place on November 07, 2015 in Monarch Hotel in the presence of the guests of honor Mrs. Munit Mesfin Artist/Singer and Mr. Daniel Sileshi Lecturer at Addis Ababa University.

Some 30+ enthusiastic participants attended the workshop including representatives for Initiative Africa which is serving as the lead national partner for the HOLLA project as well as representatives of the peer educators. The workshop commenced by screening a documentary film entitled Shield and Spear a film show casing a revolution that is taking place in the changing political climate of South Africa as artists, musicians and designers tackle issues of politics, race and history. Following Daniel Sileshi Lecturer at Addis Ababa University presented on how Arts is a vital instrument to bring about development. He stated arts can be an incredible persuasive tool to wake society up about the various problems that need solution. Following Daniels presentation famed Artist Munit shared her experience as a singer, an economist and her endeavor to link the two together. After words some valid points were mention from the participant about the current status on Arts and the art industry in Ethiopia and how it could be girded toward playing a vital role in the development of the country. The workshop came to an end with a few remarks form Mrs. Tsigereda Zewudu who is a member of the HOLLA advisory board.
